What’s In Store for FASHFEST 2017

It’s time again for Canberra’s annual fashion event FASHFEST. After four years you know the drill, there will be a red carpet, live music, a photo wall and of course, non-stop fashion.

What’s New This Year?

A Focus on Indigenous Textiles

In its fifth year, FASHFEST will showcase textile art and designs from the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation. Twelve Indigenous designers will each present a high-end look created from textiles made in remote Northern Territory communities.

A Spotlight on New Zealand Designers

The New Zealand High Commission will be sponsoring a show highlighting the diversity of New Zealand designers. Several labels from Trelise Cooper (a Leiden favourite available at local boutiques Momento Dezigns, Pink Ink and Baby Pink) will be on show alongside other independent NZ labels.

New Australian Designer Labels

Canberra boutique Momento Dezigns will be presenting a show packed full of designer labels including Alex Perry, KITX, Misha Collection, and Moss & Spy as well as Bec & Bridge, Camilla, and Ginger & Smart, many of which are new to the FASHFEST runway.

New Local Labels

A host of local labels will make their FASHFEST debut this year including De Challie Haute Couture, Gabrielle Spencer Bridal, Gehrich, and Thunder Thighs. Young Canberra designer Ashleigh Bujaroski will launch her Summer Paradise Seekers label on the FASHFEST runway.

Although we love the new and exciting as much as the next fashion diehard, it wouldn’t be FASHFEST without returning favourites including Karen Lee, Zilpah Tart, Charly Thorn, and the CIT Fashion Students. See all the designers who will be presenting at FASHFEST here.

Like last year, the program is made up of six distinct shows. Tickets start from $49 with VIP and Platinum ‘experiences’ and packages available. We’ll be attending every show and look forward to seeing you there.

As well as a near obsessive interest in fashion, Emma is a former scientist, occasional contemporary dancer, avid reader and self-confessed cat lady (she has three). Emma lived in Leiden in the Netherlands as a baby and Leiden ought to have been her middle name had her mother thought of it at the time and not chosen Louise instead.
