Canberra’s Newest Beauty Destination is Here

Today the doors to the new beauty precinct within the Canberra Centre officially opened. We got into town bright and early to get a first look at everything before the doors opened. As we made our way through the morning frost and mist we were treated to flower installations created by The Floral Society, who transformed four everyday objects into beautiful floral sculptures.

Once snug and warm within the Canberra Centre, we lost no time inspecting the new space. Regular shoppers will barely recognise the re-vamped Monaro Mall, which is now a bright, modern, and open space. Individual boutiques line the main corridor and a large open air space made up of smaller concessions lies off to one side.

The line for the new Mecca Maxima started at 6.30am (pretty amazing for a weekday) with early birds being treated to hot chocolates, pink caps and sweet treats while they eagerly waited in the cue. The first 100 people to make it to The Daily Edited concession received a free monogrammed makeup bag so we were careful not to miss out on that opportunity. Most stores were giving away delightful goodies such as a beautiful rose from Julique and a bag of samples at L’Occitane. Those who managed to make it into Lush when it first opened went home with a goodie bag full of limited edition products.

Vogue Beauty editor Remy Rippon lead a short panel discussion at 10.30am, talking to representatives from Aveda, Jurlique and Inglot. Here is what each of them had to say:

Matthew from Aveda

‘Healthy hair is rooted in a good scalp. We’ve released a whole range focusing on the scalp. We have designed a scalp cleanser that you can use and shampoo at the same time. Our Aveda Daily Hair Repair is a heat protector and strengthens hair. It’s one of our favourite products.’

Charlotte from Jurlique

We are an Australian natural skincare range. We use natural ingredients grown on our farm in the South Australian hills and from all over the world. Our Rose Water Balancing Mist is a must. It’s world famous.’

Rhiannon from Inglot

‘All the girls who work at Inglot are qualified makeup artists. We do paid services including makeovers and classes which are redeemable in product. Our products are not tested on animals and are 100% vegan. My hero product is the tailored palette system which you can use to customise your own palette. It saves you money and is good for the environment because you aren’t buying the packaging every time.’

After shopping around a little more, we then lined up to meet beauty blogger Shannon Harris (@shaaanxo). A handful of die-hard fans had been waiting to meet Shannon from 10am, but after joining the cue we only had to wait about 45 minutes for our hug and photo with the gorgeous gal herself. Shannon is clearly the recipient of much love as each person leaving the meet and greet had a huge smile on their face.

The new beauty precinct is everything we hoped it would be and is without doubt the premier beauty destination in Canberra. And if today’s turnout is anything to go by, Canberra certainly has an appetite for beauty.
