So a weird thing happened to us the other day. While Team Leiden were busy scheming away, putting together our guide to all the new shops rumoured to be coming to the Canberra Centre, the Canberra Centre was busy making an official announcement about some of the new shops getting ready to open their doors. Not two hours after we published our rumour-ridden investigation did the Canberra Times break the real news.
The next day we got our media release describing the Canberra Centre’s new dedicated beauty and wellness precinct set to open in July.
Here is the official scoop:
Yes we already have a Mecca so no, this news is not as exciting as, say, if the Sephora we all wanted was announced, but at least this new Mecca is going to be something special. The store will be huge, house a play bar for customers to try products out, digital look books, and a new artistry consultation bar. All the exciting Mecca exclusive brands will be there including Nars, Urban Decay, Stilla, Hourglass, Too Faced, Smashbox, Kevyn Aucoin, and Ciate.
Jurlique is opening its first store in the Canberra Centre. Best known for its environmentally sustainable practices and ethically sourced ingredients from the South Australian Hills, this luxurious label is Australia’s number one premium skincare brand.
Inglot is one of the worlds leading manufacturers in colour cosmetics and is a favourite with makeup artists. Previously our closest Inglot was in Sydney but soon those cutomisable palettes will be a quick trip to the mall away.
Professional products, on trend colours, creative beauty: that’s what we can expect from 3ina, according to their website. If their pictures of fresh-faced models with fun eye-liner are anything to go by, 3ina is going to encourage us to experiment with our look.
Given there are already a lot of laser clinics going around, this news isn’t particularly exciting either. But hey, their pricing seems competitive and a little competition never hurt the consumer.
We already broke this news the other day via our investigation of jobs going on SEEK. Perfect Potion is all about promoting a holistic way of life and being good to the environment, which will go down a treat.
While there are a couple of interesting announcements here, it’s not quite the blockbuster reveal we were all hoping for. And while a beauty and wellness precinct is a lovely idea, we have to wonder if by grouping all these similar businesses together that customers may boycott the area all together if they aren’t in the mood for beauty. At least now with a lot of the businesses spread out, beauty lovers have to traipse all over the Centre to compare brands, thereby increasing their likelihood of spending their dollars in other stores along the way.
Canberra Centre Manager Amanda Paradiso revealed that ‘the precinct will also offer a variety of interactive experiences including beauty and wellbeing masterclasses, a sip and scent martini workshop and floral masterclass, beauty night markets and yoga sessions to celebrate the launch.’ This will certainly be something to get excited about, as we know the Canberra Centre throws a good masterclass (ps. the next one with the Bachelor’s Tim Robards is this Saturday).
So get ready, July is not that far off. And remember, these announcements only cover a small part of all the biz going on at the Canberra Centre. We might get our H&M yet.
