Here at Leiden we don’t normally advocate for trends; we believe everyone should dress however they damn well please. Sometimes, however, a trend comes along that makes us want to jump on its bandwagon. This week we take a good hard look at gingham and monochrome dressing.
Fun and Flirty
Gingham Hero: Skirt from Country Road
Top: H&M
Shoes: Miu Miu
Why it works: By keeping the colour palette simple, the gingham print takes centre stage. we balanced the flirty skirt length with a long sleeve shirt, but kept things fun with flouncy frill on the sleeve. Sexy pumps help to elongate the legs.
Weekend Pin Up
Gingham Hero: Topshop Trousers (sadly these are sold out but here are some equally cute ones)
Knit: Country Road
Head scarf: Vintage YSL
Shoes: Simone Rocha
Why it works: Same rules as above, these fab trousers are the hero (plus the cut makes your bum look fab). Paired with a relaxed knit, sandals and a head scarf, this look says take me out to brunch.
Wildcard
Gingham Hero: Country Road Top (this one is also sold out but we also like this one)
Trousers: Country Road
Skirt (worn over trousers): Alexa Chung for AG Jeans
Shoes: Sportsgirl
Accessories: Vintage
Why it works: You might think gingham is a day time only print, but guess what? With some clever styling you can work this print at night time too. Pair your ginham top with chic black cigarette trousers and killer heels and, if you are feeling brave, how about layering a skirt over the top? Don’t worry that parts optional.
