‘We went for a fun & flirty, carefree & innocent look with a slightly sophisticated boho vibe for this gorgeous 70s inspired hair. We have used some lovely big curls and some finger teasing to create the looks on Ashley and Billie. We kept some soft volume through to the roots but let loose and gave lots of volume through their mid-lengths and ends. The moment model Samantha stepped into our salon on the morning of the shoot, we looked at each other and said “Farrah Fawcett”, so we kept with that inspiration. We kept the curl soft but slightly more defined for Samantha. For our male model George, we created a more formal look for beginning of shooting that we could ruffle out and soften to a more casual look for the end of the shoot.’

‘The makeup for this shoot was inspired by a fusion of a 70’s boho look with today’s boho trend. I wanted the skin of the beautiful models to look fresh, clean and glowing. I used on the girls a nude lip colour to ensure the bronzes and golds used on the eyes were the feature.’

‘The fashion of the early 70s was daring and carefree. The women’s’ rights movement gained momentum and women started to have more freedom than before. By the mid 60s, corsetry was a thing of the past and in the 70s even bras were given away by some! There was more influence from ‘ethnic’ cultures reflected in the clothing, with leather, embroidery and bold colours being popular. The maxi dresses are comfortable, yet feminine. All of these influences are reflected in the clothing choices on this beautiful afternoon and still relate to ideals for today…..freedom, equality, love, connection and global influences here in Australia. Oh, and who doesn’t love an orange Kombi van?’
