Keen on Peachy Keen – VIP Launch Wrap Up

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the VIP launch of a new footwear and accessories boutique in Braddon, Canberra, Peachy Keen. Having observed the instant success owner, Alicia Xyrakis, enjoyed over a year ago when she opened her first business, clothing boutique Rebel Muse, we were naturally curious and more than a little eager to discover what her second retail venture would offer.

We arrived a little early to be rewarded with a glimpse of the final preparations going on inside: mouthwatering food from Woodbook Catering being laid out, champagne cocktails topped up and last minute adjustments to displays being made. As more and more excited guests arrived, scattering the pavement outside, we were treated to adorable peach shaped cookies bearing slogans such as ‘just peachy,’ ‘keen as,’ and ‘peachy keen, jelly bean.’ Made by Camille Young, these cookies were so cute it almost seemed a shame to eat them.

When we finally spilled inside and were able to survey the coveted array of shoes, jewellery, bags, sunglasses, and hats at our leisure, it became obvious that the same careful consideration Alicia uses when buying for Rebel Muse has unsurprisingly flowed through to Peachy Keen. Like its big sister, Peachy Keen stocks a mix of statement pieces and everyday essentials: in short, everything a girl needs to build a versatile wardrobe of accessories.

Peachy Keen inhabits what was formerly home and giftware boutique, Unit Concepts, and in taking over the space, Alicia has artfully mixed the old with new, embracing existing fittings while adding her own stamp to the space. The boutique is light and airy, dotted with accents of pink that perfectly contrast the stark whites and blacks of the walls and floors. The primarily monochromatic palate allows the merchandise to take centre stage just as it should.

Having always worked her shop floor at Rebel Muse along with her team of incredible staff, Alicia is well placed to know what her customers want, and it appears what they want is more accessories. In creating Peachy Keen, Alicia can now offer an expanded retail experience, whereby her customers have more options to build entire looks from her expertly edited offering.

Along with her contemporaries in Braddon, Alicia is changing the face of fashion retail in Canberra, giving us access to labels and brands that were previously only available to us online or via a trip interstate. If the large numbers of happy guests and customers in attendance at its launch are any indicator, Peachy Keen is set to be just as successful as Rebel Muse.

Peachy Keen is officially open from Friday 21 October.
