Jean Paul Gaultier for Target, Balmain for H&M, Mary Katrantzou for Adidas Originals. If you haven’t heard of at least one of these latest collabs, you may have been living under a rock. Collaborations are big news. High-end designers working with affordable fashion retailers to bring the masses their little slice of luxury has become the norm. Throw limited stock levels into the mix and you often have to line up all night just to get your hands on a piece of the sartorial gold you might not otherwise have been able to afford.
One of the latest fashion collaborations to hit our shores is one that has had the Leiden team bouncing about the office in anticipation. British shoe designer Charlotte Dellal, aka Charlotte Olympia (yes, she of the Kitty Cat Flat), has partnered with Havaianas to create two very special pairs of thongs. Dellal explains: “being half Brazilian, Havaianas have always been a staple when on holiday around the world and on the beach in Rio, my home away from home. I am so excited to be able to add my creative stamp to a classic summer favourite!”
So what can we expect from such a collaboration? High glamour, that’s what. The collection celebrates the signature colour palette of Charlotte Olympia: red, black, and gold as well as embraces iconic emblems of the brand: Kitty, Bruce the leopard, and the spider web.
The sexy kitty thongs are slim with a contrasting gold strap and metallic gold Kitty face while the red ‘Bruce’ thongs have a wider shape and feature an illustration of Bruce the leopard himself. Both thongs feature a subtle gold spider web logo on the strap and a ‘Charlotte Olympia loves Havaianas’ on the sole.
So for all of you scrimping and saving to make a pair of Charlotte Olympia shoes your own, your Christmas has come early as these thongs will set you back either $65 for Kitty or $55 for Bruce. At that price you don’t even have to choose between them, why not have both? That’s just what we did.
