Fast fashion can make us feel like clothing is disposable. Is this scenario familiar? Heidi bought a dress to wear out to a party last week and is now sick of it, but hey, it only cost $40 so it’s no big deal to her so she chucks it out. Just imagine if everyone in Australia did that to just one item? In Australia, we generate 6000 kilograms of clothing waste every 10 minutes (ABC TV). Only a comparatively small percentage of what we donate to charity shops gets sold with the rest ending up in landfill. So what… Continue Reading

So this article is not our usual how-to. It’s more a straight up celebration of styling second hand and vintage fashion. A few weeks ago we attended a Clothes Swap event. For the uninitiated, a clothes swap is all about combating textile waste. In Australia, we generate 6000 kilograms of clothing waste every 10 minutes (ABC TV). Only a comparatively small percentage of what we donate to charity shops gets sold, with the rest ending up in landfill. The idea behind a clothes swap event is to encourage people to bring pieces they no longer wear to swap for something… Continue Reading
I have to get something off my chest before we start. I don’t really like musicals. Yep, I said it. Well, that might be a teeny bit of an overstatement; what I actually cannot abide is sing-talking. Give me a musical that is essentially a play interspersed with songs and I will be happy. But if it is non-stop singing from start to finish, those inane sentences sung as though they are the most important statements on earth rather than the banal things that they are, fill me with such an irrational rage that I just want to run… Continue Reading
‘We went for a fun & flirty, carefree & innocent look with a slightly sophisticated boho vibe for this gorgeous 70s inspired hair. We have used some lovely big curls and some finger teasing to create the looks on Ashley and Billie. We kept some soft volume through to the roots but let loose and gave lots of volume through their mid-lengths and ends. The moment model Samantha stepped into our salon on the morning of the shoot, we looked at each… Continue Reading
Downsizing your own wardrobe is never a very fun activity, but have you ever tried downsizing someone else’s? Recently I helped my mother go through some of her old clothes to donate to clean out some space. I was amazed and delighted at some of the garments she had kept for such a long time. Not just by the fashions but by the stories she could tell with each item, transported me back to another time. The simple chore of cleaning out her closet soon became a game of dress-ups and allowed Mum to reminisce about the past. The… Continue Reading
