An Ode to Headbands

I have always been exceptionally lazy when it comes to my hair; it either hangs long and lank when I am out and about or is piled up on top of my head when I am at the gym or going to sleep. Given this sad state of things, one of my New Year resolutions was to make more of an effort with my hair. Rather than opting for more extravagant hairstyles (or any hairstyle for that matter), this resolution has instead translated into me sticking a whole bunch of accouterments atop my head, one such being the humble… Continue Reading

Adelaide Fashion Festival Student Runway 2018

My favourite runway at a fashion festival is typically a student runway. Without the pressure to create something commercially viable and with more opportunity to explore, students often create garments that push the boundaries of design. When deciding which shows to attend at the Adelaide Fashion Festival this year, the student runway was top of the list after Slow Saturday, a day dedicated to sustainable fashion. As well as showcasing the designs of second and third year fashion students, the Student Runway was produced entirely by TAFE SA students including hair, makeup, lighting, catering, styling music and graphics. The… Continue Reading

FASHFEST 2018 – What I Wore

FASHFEST time, for me, has become a highly awaited event each year. Being one of the runway models for the past two years, this year I am the special correspondent for Leiden at the event. So in addition to our usual runaway report, you get a quick run-down of how I went in full feather. Fashion events are a golden opportunity to get creative and experiment with every aspect of your look. It also brings the eminent pressure of googling ‘what to wear at a fashion show’ obsessively, contemplating buying a new outfit, renting outfits or certain pieces and what… Continue Reading

Almost Everything I Wore This Month

All the way back in January I started taking a mirror selfie every day to document my outfits. I wanted to hold myself accountable to my new years style resolutions and to also chart the way I was making use of my wardrobe. For the most part I have kept this up throughout the year, missing a day here and there. Largely due to laziness I haven’t shared the images here until today when, as I yet again reached for an orange funnel necked top, I felt an urge to go back and look at how many times I had… Continue Reading

The Trouble with Hedi Slimane and his View of Women

This season, spring/summer 19, was completely overshadowed by designer Hedi Slimane and his new vision for iconic French house Céline. When it was announced that Slimane, he who revolutionised menswear at Dior Homme before divisively reinventing the wheel at Yves Saint Laurent, was to take over from revered British designer Phoebe Philo, who was stepping down from the brand after ten years as creative director, jaws collectively dropped. How could the champion of louche youths in thigh skimming mini dresses possibly take up the mantle of Philo? With her devoted community of ‘Philophiles’, Philo was championed as a designer… Continue Reading

Leiden’s Top Tips for Op Shopping

Have you ever noticed that those people with the most enviable personal style don’t dress head to toe in any one designer? They mix and match between designer, high street and vintage to create looks entirely their own. Kate Moss does this better than anyone. She practically invented this approach to dressing in a modern context. But lets face it; we don’t all have Kate Moss’s fashion connections or bank account. So how can the average person start to build a wardrobe of clothes unique to them? The cheapest and easiest, not to mention most environmentally friendly, way to… Continue Reading
