If Max were to make me a wardrobe I would have a list as tall as me with requests and suggestions as well as things I don’t want. He told me about some of the experiences he has had making clothes specifically for different individuals:   ‘I… Continue Reading

Made to Measure with Max – Part Two Male Uniform & The Rise of Androgyny

With a background in fashion and garment construction, and having run his own made-to-measure business, Maximillian has fantastic insight into fashion trends and dressing for self expression. To read Part One of this series where I talk to Max about all things fashion, click HERE.     A big part of my discussion with Max was around gendered fashion trends and what’ ‘rules’ exist for men and for women. We also discussed how fashion, as a medium of self expression, can exist to blur the boxes around men and women and highlight the diversity of the gender spectrum. ‘I’ve noticed… Continue Reading

Made to Measure with Max – Part One Made to Measure

Maximillian has a degree in graphic design but followed this with a TAFE course in garment construction. A few years later he put his skills as both a designer and a creator to work and opened his own made-to-measure service whilst also wholesaling men’s ties which took off. This lead to Max creating a fashion production service that helped independent emerging designers get their collections made. This was a well needed platform at the time. After working for designers and making clothes for their brands, Max continues to mentor emerging fashion designers and creatives but has moved away from the… Continue Reading

Top Five Lifestyle Blogs

I love knowing how to do stuff or improving a system in my life. I think that is why I find the ‘lifestyle blog genre’ quite addictive. This combined with the fact that I am quite nosy and I like seeing how other people organised their drawers and wardrobes. In my many attempts (and occasional successes) at becoming better at life, I have become loyal to the following blogs and websites that may help you to organise, clean, and just live better.   Rachel Talbott I discovered most of these blogs through YouTube and this one has some lovely cleaning… Continue Reading

Three Quick Ideas For Your Temporary Living Space

Over the course of my flatting/not living at home chapter of my life I have lived in nine different living spaces (eg. share houses, apartments) over the course of six and a half years. Sometimes these spaces were more permanent, maybe I was there for a year or two, but some of these were more temporary, I was only there a couple of months. I have also travelled for work and been in a place that isn’t home for a month or two just living out of a suitcase. Also, given that my generation seems to be “shut out… Continue Reading

Dressing for Winter

In March this year I moved from Melbourne — where the average temperature during the day was 30 to 40 degrees celsius — to Wellington, New Zealand. Here it is a national celebration if a day gets hotter than 26 degrees celsius and when I got here in March it was a high of 22. This was considered ‘surprisingly mild’ for locals at that time of year. Now, well into June, we are talking single digits in the morning and non stop rain for days at a time. There is snow on the mountains and ice on the cars.… Continue Reading

Let’s get Lush – A Review of a Handful of Lush Products

I have always loved walking down the street and then smelling the unique smell of a Lush Cosmetics store from three doors down. To me, Lush is like visiting the Weasley’s shop in Harry Potter: I walk in and I just want to touch and smell and experience everything. This is because Lush make products “from fresh organic fruits and vegetables, the finest essential oils, and safe synthetics.” They also only buy ingredients “from companies that do not conduct or commission tests on animals” (from the Lush website). This guilt free sense of values, combined with the fact that… Continue Reading
