What I Learned From A Shit Business Meeting

So something happened to me the other day that sent me on a roller coaster of emotions. Feelings of inadequacy, shame and embarrassment all balled together in what culminated at the end of the day in me feeling like a big idiot for even letting that sort of shit get to me. But let’s back track. I’ve talked a lot about why I started this magazine. If you haven’t heard my story before, it is summed up beautifully and pictorially in our first print zine (a shameless plug I know). It’s been a tonne of hard work but I… Continue Reading

Harlotte Cosmetics and Diana Cheetham at Fiji Fashion Week

With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia having just wrapped up, we are feeling the come down. Yes, plenty of Romance Was Born posts are still popping up in our Instagram feed, keeping the magic alive that little bit longer. And yes, the Cannes film festival is happening, taking away some of that end of fashion week sting, but to tell the truth, we are more than a little tired of seeing Bella Hadid in yet another revealing gown. Enter Fiji Fashion Week. Now in it’s tenth year, Fiji Fashion week combines local design talent with overseas labels, a mix… Continue Reading

A Chat with Sam Young-Wright of Sydney Dance Company

Having grown up dancing in Canberra as part of the city’s own youth dance company Quantum Leap, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of each contemporary dance performance that comes to town. I find these performances even more enjoyable when they feature a familiar face. Such is the case for Sydney Dance Company’s latest offering Orb, a double bill comprising Ocho (meaning eight in Spanish) to mark artistic director Raphael Bonachela’s eighth year with the Company, and Full Moon, a piece choreographed by Taiwanese choreographer Cheng Tsung-lung. Amongst the beautiful dancers who will perform in Orb is Canberran Sam Young-Wright.… Continue Reading

The Overblown Stigma of Herpes

I was recently diagnosed with Type 1 of the Herpes simplex virus (HSV). I didn’t understand how this had happened to me. My own ignorance led me to believe herpes only happened to people who were sexually promiscuous and unsafe. I can’t be the only one who remembers laughing at the line in The Hangover that says ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas… except herpes. That shit’ll stay with you.’ But that would never happen to me, right? I always did everything that society has arbitrarily deemed as ‘correct’ when it came to sex. I waited until I… Continue Reading

Review – MUD Body Mask

Mud: it gets on our boots and it’s kind of gross and messy. It is not usually something we think of when it comes to skincare. But here I am, having just rubbed mud all over my skin deliberately. Not your everyday ‘it just rained and I stepped in a puddle’ type of mud, this was a MUD (My Ultimate Detox) Original body mask. MUD’s key ingredient is bentonite clay which has an electrical charge that livens when mixed with water. This allows the clay to attract toxins and impurities out of your skin.   Here is what I… Continue Reading

Millennial Watches

The invention of smart watches was supposed to herald the death of traditional watchmaking. But just as TV did not kill the radio star and eBooks did not destroy the paperback, smart watches have not strangled our yearning for an old school time piece. One of the lovely perks of our job is that sometimes we get fun things to play with. At the moment we are enamoured with our Royal watch from Millennial Watches. It’s sleek and elegant in design (tick), affordable in price (double tick), and unisex (oh the sharing). Millennial Watches was founded by a young… Continue Reading
