Some time ago I attended a Champagne Masterclass at the Canberra Centre with The Champagne Dame Kyla Kirkpatrick. I am not much of a drinker, if left to my own devices I probably wouldn’t drink at all, but I left that masterclass with a desire to buy champagne. Such is the power of Kyla.
Before finding herself in this rather unique job, Kyla worked in banking where she was introduced to the world of luxury. She developed an interest in champagne, and after reaching out to a storied champagne house in France, she left her job, her home, and her man to spend eight months kicking around the vineyards of Champagne before being recruited by luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (now Kerring) as a champagne expert.
Kyla now works for herself, representing the entire Champagne region, giving champagne tours, teaching masterclasses and even leading a champagne club. However, it turns out that Australia’s foremost champagne educator is not only an expert in the luxurious sparkling wine that comes from Champagne; she is also an expert on whisky. During her stint with LVMH, Kyla spent time with Dr Bill Lumsden, the Cellarmaster for Glenmorangie, learning all there is to know about whisky.
We are excited to share that Kyla will be back in Canberra leading a whisky masterclass at Canberra’s favourite whisky bar, Hippo Co on the 22 June. Through her renowned engaging, witty and charming manner, Kyla will take attendees through the Highlands, Lowlands and Isles of Scotland uncovering the provenance of whisky.
As part of the masterclass, guests will sample five decadent whiskies:
Highlands – Dalmore 15 year Old
Isle of Skye – Talisiker 10 Year Old
Lowlands – Bladnoch
Isle of Islay – Lagavuline 16 year old
Speyside – Aberbour A’Bunadh
If you want to drink delicious whisky, eat artisan chocolate and be thoroughly entertained by Kyla, you know what to do.
