After a killer 2016 packed with a slew of hit singles, a memorable Triple J Like a Version performance and an almost sold out EP tour, Brisbane singer-songwriter Ayla is back. The self-proclaimed op-shop lover has been busy with a new single released in May, a new EP in the pipeline and an East-coast tour on the way. Ayla’s latest single Shallow End has seen her mature as a songwriter and collaborate with a few big names; the song is co-written by Glenn Sarangapany (Birds of Tokyo) produced by Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music) and mixed by Ian Pritchett (Boo… Continue Reading

A Whisky Masterclass with The Champagne Dame
Some time ago I attended a Champagne Masterclass at the Canberra Centre with The Champagne Dame Kyla Kirkpatrick. I am not much of a drinker, if left to my own devices I probably wouldn’t drink at all, but I left that masterclass with a desire to buy champagne. Such is the power of Kyla. Before finding herself in this rather unique job, Kyla worked in banking where she was introduced to the world of luxury. She developed an interest in champagne, and after reaching out to a storied champagne house in France, she left her job, her home, and… Continue Reading
Love
This same sex bridal shoot is something I’ve been looking forward to shooting for a very long time. I was thrilled to be working with the very talented Steph Quarmby for makeup, and the gorgeous Victoria and Kate for this empowering feminine shoot. Shot at the National Arboretum in Canberra, this afternoon bridal shoot was incredible fun. It baffles me that in Australia, a first world country, we even still have the question of same sex marriage on the plate. Get this: according to the 2011 Australian Census, around 33,700 same-sex couples in Australia were registered, with 17,600 male same-sex… Continue Reading
Leiden Book Club Book 3 – The Course of Love
The Course of Love by Alain de Botton is not your typical man-meets-woman romance novel. Man does meet woman. And woman does fall in love with man. But then, we get to find out what happens when ‘happily ever after’ rolls around. How often have you watched or read a romance film or novel where man and woman finally get together after some prerequisite trials and, as they disappear off into the sunset, wondered, ‘What will happen to them?’ Take, for example, Beauty & the Beast, Pride and Prejudice, and Groundhog Day. Our leading men and women are besotted,… Continue Reading

We Are Ariana, We Are Manchester
This week I, like most people, was horrified, heartbroken and furious to hear about the terrorist attack on the Manchester Arena at the end of Ariana Grande’s concert on Monday night. Terrorist attacks are always sickening to hear about, but something about this particular attack feels incredibly personal. Already in my life I have shed a lot of tears for the atrocities that terrorists have committed, but the heart-wrenching tears of devastation and rage I have shed this week are something new. Unfortunately, we live in a world where terror attacks are happening more and more often. Every week… Continue Reading
FASHFEST Model Casting 2017
Modeling hasn’t been getting a good wrap lately. Stories of models being left to stand in dark corridors for hours on end, or being told to only drink water so that they are the right size, have been emerging as casting directors and models themselves seek to call out bad practice within the industry. The life of a model certainly isn’t all that social media leads us to believe. While it involves a lot of hard work, long hours and constant scrutiny, modeling can also be a lot of fun. If you live in Canberra or its surrounding regions… Continue Reading
