After recently seeing a double bill of two thought-provoking dance works pedal and Castles, to say the least we were intrigued. Presented by emerging theatre company House of Sand, these innovative works mixed dance, theatre and cabaret seamlessly, deftly exploring subject matter often left untouched by the medium of dance. Each work was created and performed by Eliza Sanders and directed by Charles Sanders, the bother and sister behind House of Sand. We sat down with Eliza, to find out more about the making of these works as well as her and Charles’ critically acclaimed new company. What… Continue Reading

Fashion News – Nasty Gal files for Bankruptcy
Online fashion business Nasty Gal, founded by Sophia Amoruso, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Nasty Gal began life as an ebay store when Amoruso was twenty-two years old and enjoyed a meteoric rise until recent years as the gap between costs and profitability widened. Having secured some capital in 2015, the business was unable to maintain the momentum of investment required to keep the business growing. In addition to heading a business that at its peak earned a reported $100 million in annual sales, Amaruso has become a celebrity in her own right. Her 2014 New York… Continue Reading
The Museum of Bags and Purses
Princess Grace’s gorgeous face on a sandwich board tucked between bicycles on a narrow canal-street in Amsterdam advertises ‘Royal bags and purses.’ It’s the Museum of Bags and Purses and it’s a little off the tourist track but attracts an assortment of visitors. Behind its rather ordinary door is a rather extraordinary display showing the development of bags and purses from the Middle Ages to the present day. I was told it is the largest collection of its kind in the world and that’s not unexpected when you consider the uniqueness of it all. The Museum of Bags and… Continue Reading
An Evening of Art and Fashion at Trove
Have you got something planned this Friday night? Well if you have, those after work drinks can wait. If you haven’t then all the better, because we have a suggestion. Don’t expect a typical after hours shopping event, although there will be the requisite live music, wine, and nibbles on offer, guests are invited to meet the makers of some of the fine treasures on show… Continue Reading
Book Review: The Many Selves of Katherine North
Before you read this book, hop onto Emma Geen’s website and have a quick read about her. When someone’s PhD ‘aims to draw together the findings of science, philosophy and literature to examine the relationships between narrative, embodiment and empathy,’ it’s difficult not to feel as though their debut novel is going to be an epic ride. And The Many Selves of Katherine North doesn’t disappoint. Geen’s novel asks many big questions. What does it mean to be human? Where does ‘animal’ end and ‘human’ begin? What is the human conscious and what sets it apart from other living… Continue Reading
Talking Nutrition with Jacqueline Alwill
The final workshop to take place in The Canberra Centre’s health and wellness destination Eden was a nutrition workshop lead by the founder and director of The Brown Paper Bag, nutritionist Jacqueline Alwill. As well as running a thriving nutrition business, Jacqueline is also a whole foods cook with a new book out entitled ‘Seasons to Share’. What was billed as a discussion of the four pillars of health (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) turned out to be so much more. ‘The four pillars are always evolving and growing, we can’t put any clear line between them and that’s… Continue Reading
