Trust Me, I’m an Expert

When I woke up the other day I wasn’t feeling too well. I had a headache and a sore throat, so I rang a mate of mine who’s in the public service and has an arts degree and asked him what I should do. On the way to work I could hear a funny rattling noise in my car, so I rang a mate of mine who works in retail and asked him what could possibly be wrong. After training that evening, my left shoulder was tight and sore, so I rang my accountant to find out what could… Continue Reading

Into the Garden with Melanie Child

With international flights now operating in and out of Canberra Airport, the city of Wellington, New Zealand is just a short trip away. With the two cities now officially linked as sister cities, ties will be further strengthened through a range of programs including cultural exchange. What better way to celebrate than with this stunning photo editorial featuring ethical designs created by New Zealand based designer Melanie Child recently shown at Canberra’s premier fashion event, Fashfest.               Photographer – Leighton Hutchinson Clothing – Melanie Child Location – New Zealand High Commission Hair and MUA… Continue Reading

Men’s workshop with Mitchell Oakley Smith

The Canberra Centre’s Eden continued its string of masterclasses last Saturday with something for the boys: Scotch & Watch, an evening of suits, watches, and whiskey with Australia’s premier fashion journalist, Mitchell Oakley Smith. Upon arrival we were greeted by a space well laid out with male grooming products on display and a try-me desk containing a variety of colognes and moisturisers. The food had a distinctly masculine theme to it with tiny cheeseburgers and duck (at least I think it was duck) wraps. And of course there was the bar which, while filled with quality booze, had only… Continue Reading

Fashion x Hyatt

I have never quite understood very expensive meals until recently. Late last year I read an essay on fine dining which explored the ethics around the world’s top restaurants commanding $300 upwards for a single meal. My first thought was, ‘why would someone pay that much for dinner?’ I confess I am no foodie, I have always invested my money in shoes and clothes, tangible things that I can hold on to and keep, rather than finite edible delights. I could, and regularly do, spend $300 on a fashion item at the drop of a hat, but a dinner?… Continue Reading

Easy Tips to Stop Biting Your Nails

I’ve been a chronic nail-biter my entire life. I’ve gone through good phases where I’d hardly bite my nails, and I’ve also gone through bad stages where I’d chew my nails and cuticles until they bled. For someone who is usually a bit of a control and neat freak in other aspects of her life, I’ve never understood why nail biting is the one bad habit that I’ve never been able to fully kick. Whilst I don’t think I’ll ever totally kick the habit (or at least not any time soon), these simple strategies have helped me manage my… Continue Reading

Fashion on the Field with Viviana Croker

With spring time comes spring racing, and with spring racing comes fashion on the field. That time of year where gloves, stockings, lady like dresses and of course fabulous headwear take centre stage. Fashion on the field provides a platform for men and women to express themselves through their personal style in a fun and public way. It’s not just about competing for incredible prizes, it’s about making connections, building your confidence and celebrating the joy of fashion. I met Viviana Croker about a year ago at an event in Canberra and was immediately struck by her warmth and… Continue Reading

Keen on Peachy Keen – VIP Launch Wrap Up

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the VIP launch of a new footwear and accessories boutique in Braddon, Canberra, Peachy Keen. Having observed the instant success owner, Alicia Xyrakis, enjoyed over a year ago when she opened her first business, clothing boutique Rebel Muse, we were naturally curious and more than a little eager to discover what her second retail venture would offer. We arrived a little early to be rewarded with a glimpse of the final preparations going on inside: mouthwatering food from Woodbook Catering being laid out, champagne cocktails topped up and last minute adjustments… Continue Reading
